There is only one house for the inhabitants on Dokdo. The late Mr. Kim Seongdo and his wife used to live there, but it is now occupied by officials dispatched from the Ulleung-Gun County Office.
The quay has sufficient berthing for ships (no more than 500 tons). Access to the quay is prohibited on stormy days.
The manned lighthouse serves to protect fishing boats in the nearby waters and is also a symbol indicating part of the country's territory. Its official name is the Dokdo Aids to Navigation Service and Management Office. Originally built in August 1954, it was expanded and manned in December 1998.
Expanded in August 1997, the security police building currently comprises a police quarters, a desalination facility, a heliport, a cable car and a seawater purification facility.
